DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTIONAL GIVING
The Los Angeles Master Chorale seeks a Director of Institutional Giving who is a strategic fundraising professional responsible for securing and growing philanthropic support from foundations, government agencies, and corporate partners. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, this role oversees the full lifecycle of institutional fundraising, including prospect research, proposal development, grant management, reporting, stewardship, and relationship cultivation. The Director of Institutional Giving will manage an institutional fundraising portfolio with annual revenue goals of approximately $1.5-$2 million and will play a vital role in advancing organizational priorities through compelling case-making and strong cross-departmental collaboration. This position requires a highly skilled writer, strong project manager, and relationship builder who can translate artistic vision, education programs, and organizational impact into persuasive funding opportunities.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Manage and grow a portfolio of foundation, government, and corporate funders and prospects.
• Meet or exceed annual institutional contributed revenue goals established through the organization’s budgeting and planning process.
• Develop strategies to deepen engagement and increase multi-year and programmatic support from institutional partners.
• Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective funders in partnership with the VP of Advancement, President & CEO, Artistic Director, and other senior staff.
• Represent the Master Chorale at concerts, donor events, meetings, and community functions as appropriate.
• Write compelling narratives and case statements that communicate the artistic, educational, and community impact of the Master Chorale.
• Tailor proposals and communications to align with funder priorities, guidelines, and areas of interest.
• Ensure all submissions are accurate, timely, and aligned with organizational messaging.
• Oversee all institutional grant reporting requirements, including narrative reports, financial reports, invoices, acknowledgments, and compliance documentation.
• Ensure compliance with grant agreements, including recognition, restricted funding usage, and reporting commitments.
• Maintain financial reports on institutional giving for use by senior staff and maintain institutional fund database and records. To fulfill this responsibility, you will be expected to become conversant with Tessitura, our customer relations management platform.
Prospect Research & Pipeline Development
• Conduct ongoing research to identify new institutional funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
• Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective foundation, government, and corporate funders.
• Monitor trends in arts philanthropy and public funding to identify emerging opportunities and risks.
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional fundraising, grant
writing, or nonprofit development, preferably within the performing arts or cultural sector.
• Proven track record of successfully securing foundation, government, and corporate support.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Experience preparing and monitoring grant budgets and financial reports.
• Ability to synthesize complex artistic and programmatic information into clear, persuasive narratives.
• Collaborative work style with the ability to build strong relationships across departments and with external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with CRM/database systems; Tessitura experience preferred.
• Knowledge of the Los Angeles philanthropic community and arts funding landscape strongly preferred.
• Passion for the performing arts and the mission of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Salary Range:
• $90,000 to $110,000 annually.

ADVANCEMENT INTERN
The Advancement Intern will be part of a small, passionate team supporting the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Working primarily with the Advancement Operations Manager, the Intern will assist with database management, operations, special events, concert support, prospect research, and donor stewardship. The successful candidate will work approximately 20-25 hours per week (flexible) from August 2026 to February 2027 (until the completion of 400 hours), gaining invaluable experience in all aspects of fundraising. They will play an important role in improving the effectiveness of the Chorale’s donor cultivation and stewardship efforts. This is an on-site role at The Music Center in downtown Los Angeles. Attendance at Master Chorale concerts and events will be required.
Wage: $18.47 per hours, 400 hours total
Responsibilities include:
Provide general administrative support for the Advancement department, such as scheduling, filing, and mailing. Assist with logistics for Advancement events, including data and guest management, and supporting coordination with The Music Center, vendors and contractors. Provide hands-on help during events. Assist with set-up and tear-down of membership table at concerts and interact with and assist donors and audience members during concerts. Be or become proficient with Tessitura, the Master Chorale’s patron-management system, entering gifts, pulling reports, etc. Be or become proficient with iWave, the Chorale’s donor prospect research software, and assist with prospect research, organization, and analysis. Coordinate and assist with donor communications on behalf of the VP of Advancement and other department staff. Help to structure and/or implement donor-member benefits. Provide donor ticketing services in collaboration with the Box Office. Prepare meeting materials and take minutes. Prepare and submit expense reports for VP, Advancement and other department staff. Create and update comprehensive philanthropic profiles for donors and prospects. Other duties as assigned.
Eligibility for LA County Arts Internship Program: 2026 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County.
