IN THE NEWS: FEBRUARY 2022

The Master Chorale receives a $45,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, press coverage of our innovative holiday sing-along, and more.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale started off the new year with good news: it had received a $45,000 Grants for Arts Projects award from the National Endowment for the Arts.

In December, we replaced our annual Messiah Sing-Along with the Carols on the Plaza Sing-Along, where 20 of our singers joined approximately 400 Angelenos in a festive celebration of the season. This change in programming led to a wonderful Spectrum News story, and was also picked up by the Los Angeles Times twice, as a stand-alone story, and as part of culture columnist Mary McNamara’s column

The Master Chorale was also featured on the front page of the Los Angeles Times, including a fantastic photo of the ensemble being led by Grant, for Deborah Netburn’s insightful story “Hallelujah! The Remarkable Story behind this Joyful Word.” Grant is quoted throughout the story, noting that “It’s this sound that is just so full of possibilities,” he said. “You can fill it with whatever you need to say or communicate.”

The Chorale was also included in several stories that reported The Music Center’s policy of requiring proof of a vaccine booster, including those in the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Classical Voice.
