NEW BOARD MEMBER: KRISTIN TECHENTIN HARRISON
The Los Angeles Master Chorale is pleased to welcome philanthropist Kristin Techentin Harrison to its board of directors.
Kristin Techentin Harrison was born and raised in Pasadena. Never straying far from her roots, she lives across the street from her childhood home where Elayne Griffin Techentin, long-time Master Chorale board member, still lives. Kristin attended high school at Westridge School in Pasadena, then college at the University of San Diego, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design and secondary education. After several years in San Diego running a jewelry store, where she was able to design fine jewelry, she returned to Pasadena to marry Berkeley Harrison. She earned a Master of Education degree from Azusa Pacific University and taught elementary school children until the birth of the first of their two sons.
Not surprisingly, as the granddaughter of composer Elinore Remick Warren and Z. Wayne Griffin, choral music and the Master Chorale have been woven into the fabric of Kristin’s life. She studied piano and voice in school and participated in the Westridge School Glee Club. She continued her vocal lessons through college and has maintained her love of music, both classical and contemporary.
In recent years, Kristin has been involved philanthropically with organizations geared towards children and families. In the Pasadena community, she supported and worked on committees with Kidspace Children’s Museum and Friends of Foothill Family. Kristin also served as a board member for Four Winds * Westward Ho Camp (a camp built around singing), where she and her boys were campers for many summers. In addition, she has held several board positions, including president for Las Madrinas, which fundraises for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
She is looking forward to working with the other Master Chorale board members on their continued community outreach, as well as ensuring long-term support for this pillar of the Los Angeles arts community.
