Edmond Rodriguez
TenorEdmond Rodriguez is a Latin American Tenor from Miami, FL.
Over the past several years, Edmond has enjoyed an eclectic career pursuing performance opportunities in classical music, art song, opera, musical theater and popular music as well.
In 2022, Edmond was a Vocal Fellow for the Tanglewood Music Center. He was cast in George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence, performing the American premiere conducted by the composer on the podium. Hailed for his “pure, guileless high range” (The Boston Globe), Edmond enjoyed exploring the arc of his role as the Young King, stepping into it with “frightening dignity” (The New York Times).
Edmond has performed with LA Opera Connects and New Opera West. Through these performances, he has received praise for the “warm and notably smooth line” in his singing (San Francisco Classical Voice). In 2021, Edmond premiered a vocal piece commissioned by composer Derrick Skye for a professional recital in Pasadena, CA. He soon after premiered an AI Opera, Song of the Ambassadors, written by Skye at REDCAT in 2022 and performed an excerpt from the piece at the TED Conference in 2023. Earlier this year, Edmond made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, singing the tenor solo in Steve Reich’s Traveler’s Prayer. In 2023, he was accepted as a Vocal Fellow for the Ravinia Steans Music Institute.
On the stage, Edmond has performed roles such as Anthony in Sweeney Todd, the Young King in Lessons in Love and Violence, Thomas Edison in A Fragile Filament, Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Le Pêcheur in Le Rossignol, the Man with the Old Luggage in Postcard from Morocco, and La Rainette in L’Enfant et les Sortileges.
Beyond classical music, Edmond sings as a session singer in the film, pop and television industries of Los Angeles. His voice can be heard on featured films such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Encanto, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Nope. He has sung as a back-up singer for Aloe Blacc, the Rolling Stones, and sang on Rosalia’s most recent album Motomami. Edmond’s on-screen television credits include vocals for shows Grown-ish and Hunters and a solo for the animated series Ten Year Old Tom on HBO Max.
Edmond has had the opportunity to sing under the batons of Grant Gershon, Jenny Wong, George Benjamin, James Conlon, Brad Lubman, Stephanie Rhodes Russell and Gustavo Dudamel.
Edmond has received training at the Tanglewood Music Center and the Ravinia Steans Music Institute. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Southern California and is currently completing his Master’s Degree at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. He was recently accepted as a Young Artist for the SongStudio program led by Renée Fleming at Carnegie Hall and will have his Carnegie Hall debut in 2024.
