Bio:

Mezzo-soprano Mindy Ella Chu is praised for her “expressive vigor” and “liquid ornaments,” (SF Chronicle). Specializing in baroque and contemporary music as choral artist and soloist, Mindy has performed Monteverdi’s Orfeo on tour with Apollo’s Fire, Campra’s Le Carnaval De Venise where she understudied Leonoré played by Karina Gauvin, title role in Dido and Aeneas with Voices of Music, an electro-acoustic opera Ambassador’s Song by Derrick Skye @ REDCAT Theater. She has also worked with composers such as David Lang, Julia Wolfe, Roderick Williams, Jake Runestad, Shawn Kirchner, and Arvo Pärt. In 2022, Mindy recorded baroque opera Circé by Henri Desmarest in Germany with Boston Early Music Festival and will be in the fully-staged production next summer. She appeared in the premiere cast of Du Yun and Raven Chacon’s opera Sweetland with The Industry. She is currently working with acclaimed stage director Peter Sellars in a LA Master Chorale production of Heinrich Schütz’ Musikalische Exequien. She has been heard live on BBC Radio 3, WQXR, and KUSC. Her discography is found on Hyperion Records with Yale Schola Cantorum, Apple Music with Stanford University, Spotify with The Teshin Company. Her latest album is the Nine Bethany Swann Songs, for High Voice and Piano Trio, Op. 18 by Daniel Carr on MSR Classics. Mindy has sung and recorded in her native language Cantonese for Disneyland, live and in-studio, representing the Disneyland Hong Kong market. She holds an MM in Historical Performance and Chamber Music from Yale University.
