CEO JEAN DAVIDSON: A NEW SEASON
From the opening notes of our welcome-back concert last September until the final notes of Bach’s B-minor Mass in June, our first season back since the pandemic was both a huge artistic success and a testament to the resilience of our singers and our audience. And now, we look forward with enthusiasm and optimism to a new season that begins on October 8 and 9 with Haydn’s Creation. I hope you all can join us.

Later this season, you’ll get to enjoy new music by our Swan Family Artist-in-Residence, Reena Esmail. Reena has been a welcome addition to the Chorale community; her TaReKiTa was a huge online hit for us in 2020, and we highlighted her music on last season’s Esmail/Martin concert. The performance of her music in March will be a world premiere, the kind of moment that always crackles with the spark of expectation.
We also welcome Peter Sellars back in November as the stage director of Music to Accompany a Departure. Many of you will remember his last collaboration with the Chorale, Lagrime di San Pietro, which we have toured internationally to much acclaim. In November, Peter and Grant share with us their new, moving elegy, set to music by Heinrich Schütz, for those we’ve lost over the last two years.
There are so many who make this season possible, and we want to thank the L.A. Arts Recovery Fund, the Colburn Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture for their support.
