Kathryn Shuman is a versatile LA based soprano, improviser, and composer. Vocally, she enjoys an active career of live performance and studio recording. She was the ’24-25 Pauline Oliveros season resident soprano for Long Beach Opera featured in lead roles for every production. Shuman enjoys embodying many different vocal styles and characters— her voice can be heard in film, video games, & tv (including Wicked, Superman (2025), House of Ninjas, Mulan) and some musical artists she’s performed or recorded with include Jon Batiste, Vampire Weekend, Christina Aguilera, Wynton Marsallis, Billy Childs, Jennifer Hudson, Louis Cole, KNOWER, and Father John Misty. Kathryn’s composition has been featured in film, studio installation, and commissioned by Splice, Floating, Wild Up orchestra and Luminex 2.0.
