Bio:

Carmen Edano is a young, Filipino mezzo-soprano based in Los Angeles, California. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in both Classical Voice and Music Education from

Pepperdine University, and recently finished pursuing a Master of Music in Opera at the University of California Los Angeles. At Pepperdine University, she enjoyed student teaching while performing in several operas, such as Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance (ensemble), Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus (ensemble), Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (Sorceress cover/ensemble), and Massenet’s Cendrillon (Dorothee). She studied with distinguished mentors such as Ida Nicolosi, Henry Price, David Wilkinson, and Keith Colclough. Through Pepperdine’s Heidelberg Summer Music Program, Carmen had her European debut touring around Germany and Austria, performing scenes from Il Barbiere di Sivilga (Rosina), Cosí fan tutte (Dorabella), and different musical theater selections. Carmen made her second European appearance in 2022 as Cherubino from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Arnalta from Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea through the Trentino Summer Music Festival in Italy.

Loving the Los Angeles sun, Carmen chose to continue her studies and pursue a Master’s Degree at UCLA. There, she performed as Baba the Turk in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Giannetta in

Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Eleni in the workshop premiere of Richard Danielpour’s The Grand Hotel Tartarus, and Le Mari in Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tirésias. Her mentors included Julianna Gondek, Vladimir Chernov, Peter Kazaras, Rakefet Hak, Lucy Yates, and James Darrah. She also won the UCLA All-Star Competition in 2023 and an Honorable Mention at UCLA’s 2022 Vocal Vision Awards.

Carmen currently sings with the LA Master Chorale, is a Voice Mentor at Windward School and teaches private voice lessons. She has an upcoming professional opera debut with Industry Opera as Jing in the world premier of Star Choir by Malik Gaines. She spends her free time crocheting for her small accessory business and hanging out with her cat, D.D.D. (Dani the Dinosaur of Destiny).
