A defining moment of favorite LA Master Chorale onstage experience:
When I sang as soloist in the performance of Shawn Kirchner's Songs of Ascent, I sang in memory of my father who I lost to cancer less than a year prior. My father and I shared a strong musical bond, and being able to sing through the pain in his honor was a great triumph for me. The biblical text from Psalms, combined with Shawn's exquisite songwriting had an incredible healing effect, and helped me begin to see past a very difficult phase of my grief. Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. (Psalm 131:1)
What are you listening to these days?
It changes weekly, but right now I am revisiting some old faves I listened to back in high school: Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Midnight Oil.
