Seasons With Chorale: This is my second season!
Hometown: Las Vegas, NV
B.A. in Media Studies, Minor in Music from Pomona College
I'm applying to the Vocal Chamber Music program at Redlands University this month!
Do you also have a non-singing "day job"? If so, what do you do?
I am currently the Audience Engagement Coordinator for the LA Master Chorale.
Where else do you teach/gig/conduct/sing/perform?
LA Master Chorale is my main gig. I also help run operations for The Golden Bridge (more info here).
Solo in where you go by David Lang on the recent June 2018 Brahms Requiem Concert. I was also one of the leads for Pentatonix's Sing for Big Sing California in July 2018. I'm also one of the featured singers in the short film Lacrimosa by director Arnaud Uttyenhove.
Highlights of your musical career:
I'm having my tenor debut this fall in Orlando di Lasso's Lagrime di San Pietro, conducted by Grant Gershon and Jenny Wong with staging by Peter Sellars. LA Master Chorale will be touring the piece internationally, and I'm so grateful and lucky to be performing this incredible work with such amazing musicians. Crying about it.
Favorite choral work(s):
Paul Mealor's Locus Iste, Avo Part's Nunc dimmitis, Shawn Kirchner's Heavenly Home (specifically Angel Band).....and like 500 others. Really, if it's Russian orthodox choral music or early Renaissance choral music or Tudor-era choral music, I'm into it.
Also, it took a short while but Lagrime di San Pietro is one of my favorite pieces, as well. It's so dense, it really takes a thorough combing to discover just how brilliant it is.
A defining moment of favorite LA Master Chorale onstage experience:
Big Sing California was so wild. 2,000 people all singing together in Disney Hall, with another 6000 people across the state singing via livestream... the sound and energy were immense. I wish we had national holidays where we did things like this! I felt so fortunate to help coordinate the event... and then to sing in it!
I'm also really touched by the fact that I've made some of my best friends in this ensemble. The LA Master Chorale is not just a premier chorus... it's a family full of people that love and support one another. Going to rehearsal is more like going to hang out with my cool friends and relatives. I'm so blessed to say this is one of my jobs!
What are you listening to these days?
I'm really only listening to Lagrime right now, but I sometimes take a short break for Ariana Grande.
Anything you'd like to add about yourself?
My hair is green.
