Seasons With Chorale: This is my first season!
Hometown: Las Vegas, NV
B.A. in Media Studies/Music from Pomona College
Do you also have a non-singing "day job"? If so, what do you do?
I am the Audience Engagement Coordinator for the LA Master Chorale.
Where else do you teach/gig/conduct/sing/perform?
I sing at San Marino Community Church. I also sing with Tonality and have sung with the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles and the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. Occasionally, I'll gig out at Pomona College. I like to keep my voice and my heart in a variety of musical communities!
Highlights of your musical career:
Joining the LA Master Chorale is surely a highlight! What a goal to achieve.
I also got to sing in St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican with the Pomona College Glee Club -- that was pretty neat!
Favorite choral work(s):
Paul Mealor's Locus Iste, Avo Part's Nunc dimmitis, Shawn Kirchner's Heavenly Home (specifically Angel Band).....and like 500 others. Basically, if it's Russian orthodox choral music or Renaissance or Baroque or Romantic or a madrigal I'm going to love it.
What are you listening to these days?
If I'm not listening to my mega playlist of choral tunes, it's: vaporwave, lots of drum 'n' bass (Netsky, Seba, Maduk, Sub Focus, Wilkinson), Tegan and Sara, Owl City, Lana del Rey, Lone, Disclosure, purity ring, Freelance Whales, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Lady Leshurr, funk ousadia and funk ostentação (Brazilian rap from Sao Paulo), Galimatias+Alina Baraz, Active Child, Flying Lotus (aka FlyLo), James Blake, Solange, Kiiara, AlunaGeorge, Breanne Duren, Beirut, f(x), Utada, 2NE1, Flume, Lights, M83, Sango........ I'm a hipster millennial so the range is wide.
Anything you'd like to add about yourself?
I'm married to GTs Enlightened Organic Raw Kombucha Gingerade.
Where do you live in L.A.?
What L.A. experience do you consider essential for visitors/newcomers?
Leave Fontana at 5am and make it to Redondo Beach by 7am. Park anywhere near Sawtelle and Santa Monica in the afternoon and then leave around 5:30pm and attempt to access the 405SB. Gotta check that out, for sure.
