influenced by his upbringing in the A.L. Davis New Zion Baptist Church, particularly the spiritual arrangements; one of the first graduates of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, and received a degree in piano performance from Oberlin College and continued at Juilliard and in Vienna

his settings of spirituals; being a conductor, arranger and pianist; formed the Moses Hogan Chorale and Moses Hogan Singers
